Stacker and Board Delivery Systems: Corrugating Line End Section Guide
Technical guide to stacker machines and board delivery systems at the end of corrugating lines, covering stacking methods, bundle handling, and integration.
Technology

Pre-print laminating technology produces high-quality printed corrugated packaging by laminating pre-printed sheets onto corrugated board inline during production. This guide explains the equipment, process, and advantages.
What is Pre-Print Laminating?
1. Sheets are pre-printed on high-quality offset or gravure presses (on thinner paper)
2. During corrugating, the printed sheet is laminated onto the corrugated board
3. Result: Premium print quality on corrugated packaging
This method is used for retail packaging, display boxes, and any application requiring photo-quality graphics on corrugated substrates.
Step 1: Pre-Printing (Offline)
• Design printed on lightweight coated paper (80-150 gsm)
• Offset, gravure, or digital printing for premium quality
• Sheets cut to size matching corrugating line output
• Quality inspection before delivery to corrugating plant
Step 2: Corrugating (Standard Process)
• Corrugating line produces board as normal
• Single facer, bridge, glue machine, double backer operate normally
• Board exits double backer as standard corrugated sheet
Step 3: Inline Lamination
• Pre-printed sheet fed onto top liner surface
• Laminating adhesive applied between printed sheet and board
• Pressure roller bonds printed sheet to board
• Laminated board continues to slitter scorer and cut-off
Step 4: Converting
• Laminated sheets die-cut or slot-folded into finished packaging
• Print quality far superior to direct flexo printing
• Mill roll stands, single facer(s), bridge, glue machine, double backer
• Slitter scorer, cut-off, stacker
• Sheet feeder for pre-printed sheets
• Glue applicator for laminating adhesive
• Laminating roller with pressure control
• Registration system to align print with board
• Waste handling for misaligned sheets
• Produces traditional 2 to 5 ply board
• Produces flute-to-flute 4-ply and 5-ply board
• Inline lamination of printed sheets
• Single facer speed up to 300 m/min
• No steam boiler required
• One line serves multiple production modes
• Offset/gravure quality (120+ LPI) vs. flexo (65-85 LPI)
• Full-color photographic images possible
• Consistent color across production run
• Fine text and detailed graphics
• Print sheets at dedicated print shop (better equipment)
• Corrugating line not limited by printing speed
• Change print designs without stopping corrugator
• Same line produces plain and pre-print board
• Pre-print on lightweight paper (cheaper than heavy liner)
• No expensive flexo printing stations on corrugating line
• Print waste handled at print shop, not on corrugating floor
• Better inventory management of printed vs. plain board
• Retail packaging (consumer product boxes)
• Point-of-purchase displays
• E-commerce branded shipping boxes
• Food and beverage packaging
• Electronics and appliance packaging
• Agricultural product packaging
• Must bond printed paper to corrugated liner
• Fast setting for inline production speed
• No bleed-through that affects print appearance
• Moisture resistant for packaging applications
• Compatible with various printed paper coatings
Xuegong provides matched laminating adhesives optimized for pre-print applications and boiler-free line temperatures.
• Requires reliable pre-print sheet supplier or in-house print capability
• Registration accuracy between printed sheet and board is critical
